What is the Unicode code point for the parallel sign?
It is U+2225, decimal 8741. There is no Windows Alt code for it.
Why not just type two pipes?
Two pipes are two characters with the wrong spacing, and in code they mean logical or. The single relation character spaces correctly and carries the geometric meaning.
How is it different from ‖?
U+2016 is a punctuation character used for norms, as in the norm of a vector, and as a delimiter in some scripts. U+2225 is the geometric relation.
How do I write "not parallel"?
Use ∦ at U+2226, the slashed form. Building it from a plain sign and a separate slash gives an inferior result.
Are parallel lines always coplanar?
